Sunshine Coast Culture and Events

Powell River offers a small town cultural experience so welcome to our city visitors - from the Malaspina Film Society's showings to live music sessions in local pubs and cafes and world class festivals like the Logger Sports World Championships and the International Choral KATHAUMIXW ("a gathering together of different peoples") there's always something going on.

Here's a list of some of the great activities and events for 2007, celebrating the Upper Sunshine Coast's cultural diversity and incredible history:

• Fall Fair
An authentic small town rural experience close to the Lower Mainland.
September 22 & 23

• Heritage Festival
  Various locations around Powell River, including the historic Powell River Townsite and Mill District. February.
• Festival of the Performing Arts - March 2-14th
• Jazz Festival, Annual,Vocal Summit - March 29-31
• Kathaumiux Choral Festival, 1st week of July, 2008
• 2007 Disability Games - July 11-15
• Texada Sandcastle Days - July 14-15
• Seafair Community Festival - July 28-29
• Blackberry Festival & Street Party - August 19-24
• Sunshine Folk Festival - September 1-2, Labour Day weekend
• Malaspina Films Show Society - Patricia Theatre - February
• Heritage Townsite Tours - take a walking tour of the Heritage Townsite and view the beautiful homes of "Managers Row" as well as many other notable turn of the century buildings. $5 by donation to the Townsite Society.
• Visit the Powell River Museum and the Forestry Museum for another glimpse at our history and ties to the resource sector
• Check out the local arts scene through the many venues that include several downtown galleries and cafes exhibiting local arts, and the Cranberry district.
